Okay, So after much waiting, I've finally got (I think) what I need to start a D&D campaign. I've got some character sheets now and have a good grasp on how things are going to go. What I need from you (anyone interested in playing) is a little about your character. Background if you will. Name, race, class, equipment, and history. You can have them be just about anything and have them live just about anywhere. I need to be able to figure out a way to get all the characters into the same place doing the same quest.
A few things you should know.
Spells: I don't due components, just a pain in the butt. Sleep: Sleeping all night gives you all your spells and HP back. Quirks: Don't make your character too seemingly powerful, or you might end up with an unwanted quirk. I let people play whatever, but I can be mean to people who try to exploit that. Also, give your character at least one quirk. Afraid of the moon, distracted by shiny things, won't fight females... something, anything. At least one quirk, or I'll give you one. might be something like "Afraid to fly" and your character is a dragon or bird class that flys around. NPC: I will be playing a character in the game as well. That way I have some direct control over the way things go. Depending on how/what you play depends on what I play. I like to make up for weak spots in the group. How serious my character is also depends on you. The character will lead if none of you do, or will be a trickster/slacker if the party is good and strong. Gaming: The easiest and most effective way to do this is to meet and talk online about what is going on. I'm thinking doing things over Instant Messenger, or if things are all AC, then in AC chat room. (trying to think of things that are universal) Also, I'll be posting in the forums what has transpired throughout the gaming sessions, and will also have discussion/plot progression as well. This means you'll have to check the forum thread to continue to participate, this way we can get more done via plot during the week, and work on important/battle type situations on the gaming night. Weekly/Monthly Meetings: I beileve weekly/monthly meetings will be the easiest/best way to do things. Thus, I need to know what nights work for which people. I've got class on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights, meaning I can't be on those nights until after 10:00 PM CST. The rest of my nights are open. So for me, Monday nights would probably work best. Please post when you're free. We may need to work out how this will work.
For now, that's all I got for ya. We'll worry about actually building your characters later, and such.

LOL, okay, here's the thing... I know some people want to play, but I need basic character info or I can't form a plot or work on your characters... So... Tell me about your character, if you're not sure, or don't have a set idea, IM me some time and we'll talk about it. I'm not going to go any farther until I have what I asked for in the first part of this thread.
Name: not so important
Race: important
Class: important
Equipment: not so important
History: important (basic and brief is perfectly fine)
Quirk: not so important, we can make those later

i used to make characters for the heck of it all the time... i'm a bit too imaginitve.
its funny though, as time's gone on, my characters have both become equally more powerful and more weak. meaning, they'd have some really interesting powers, but also have some major weakness. like, i remember one guy i made had extremely powerful telekinetic abilties, but he could only use them under extreme cercumstances, like, even if he was in horrible lifethreatening danger... that wasn't enough. if however, his powers ever keyed off... nothing survived. now that i think about it... it was sorta like the whole jean grey/pheonix kinda thing... but a little different.
i missed something somehwere though... is this like, and online D&D thing you wanna do? i wouldn't mind joining in somehow, but i don't know if that'd work on my end... i haven't played d&d in years, and i'm really busy right now. i WILL make a character, or help someone make a character, if they want.

i was too tempted... >>
Name: Rev Simunse
Race: Human/Mutant (not like x-men mutant... he's just not a normal human...)
Class: "Battle Mage". Half fighter, Half mage that uses control type magic (like i said, years since i played d&d so i dont' know technical terms...)
Equipment: basic leather "armor" (studded leather bracers and boots, hardened leather everything else.) belt 3 with pouches. 6 foot enchanted fighting bo staff. all in shades of dark grey's and blacks.
History: grew up with a normal life, in a normal village, no teasing as a kid, no army coming to destroy his village. when he "came of age", he wanted to see more of the world, so he went off to nearby towns and cities. he saw good and bad, saw many new races, and generally just learned how big the world really was. went home once to realize how plain his life had been, and grew disinterested with life. not necissarily suicidal, but more like "i'm alive... eh *shrug*". now he just travels from place to place, doing odd jobs, never staying in the same place for more than a week or two. he has no tie downs, he learnes what he can at a place so he doesn't get left behind in the quest for knowledge, but when it comes down to it, he has no goal for life. he just lives cause he can.
Quirk: doesn't sleep. ever. which means he doesn't regain hp and mana easily. has a minor basic knowledge of alchemy when he needs to get it back quickly, but usually just has to rely on getting it back over time. the only real interest he has is in battle, otherwise he's quiet and detatched from groups and people. he won't ignore them, but he wont' put in anything to the conversation, unless someone is way off on something, and he knows better. if they argue it, he lets it go. minor control spells (mostly moving objects 10 pounds in weight or less, quick counterspells) don't drain his mana, which is good, since he has very little to begin with. objects that are already moving (thrown items, arrows) can be stopped, but velocity adds to it, and makes it a lot harder (the faster, the harder). he can't cast while moving, and his focus is rather low (if he gets distracted, ie... getting hit, he can't hold a spell). noisy people bother him... mostly in the sense of how gnomes are loud and eccentric, and halflings and loud and jolly, and some people are loud and rude... general loud, hyperactivity bothers him.

Um, wow. Schweppes just blew me away, and it seems that I'm going to be needing some help...hmm...
Oh yeah, Schweppes, help me make a character! I have a name picked out, but I don't know how I could incorporate that into a good race/class type dealie (I've role played like 3 or 4 times total in my life). Send me a PM or something and we could work something out, if that's fine by you.

Yes Schweppes, this is going to be an online thing. Via IM or something. Do some work through the forums, but do most through 'gaming sessions' that will be set whenever people have time. That's still something to work out. I want to do a group chat, and still have individual windows open with each player. That way if something is said that the others can't hear, then they really won't hear it. Then I can point out to individual people what they see/hear, and the group doesn't know if they don't want to tell them. It should make for an interesting gaming environment, but might move slow as I can only move so fast, but it shouldn't be too much of a problem. I'm going to try and have everything worked out before we meet so I can mostly copy/paste text to speed things up. Also, this will allow for the time table to fall mostly on the players, and not me. It has also been a while since I've played D&D, but I'm sure I remember it quite well. I've always had a few quirks in my DM style, but it usually works out well. Considering it's an online thing, I'm going to be doing all the dice rolling and such, and just tell you the results of your actions. And I'll try to be descriptive. so, instead of 'You swing your bo staff... and miss... Caboose, your move' I'll try to have Caboose tell me what he's doing in private chat, while I figure type something like 'Schweppes leaps forward, swinging his bo staff like a baseball bat, the ogre turns, and deflects the staff with his arm and roars at schweppes.' This way you have an idea of what the battle looks like. And I also give bonuses and such if the opponent can't physically see you. so say Caboose attacks, and now the ogre has his back to him and is focusing on schweppes, caboose has a better chance to hit so 'Caboose Leaps into the air, swining his sword high above his head, coming down on the ogre, stabbing his sword deep into his thigh. The ogre howls in pain and tears himself away from Caboose.' Should make for better game play. I hope so anyway.
Anyway... *ahem* yes, this will be an online thing.

Chu, I get the idea of this, and Id love to join, but... I cant be certain at all of times. Im fairly certain I cant make the IM/Chat meetings, so if this isnt done with posts, let me know. If its done with posts, I can post every day. Not sure it will work though... let me know.
Im bored, so ill make it anyway
Name: Nose the Pathfinder
Race: Ranger/Elf/Halfling
Class: Ranger. A scout, focused on long range shots. Can run fast and for long distances.
Equipment: Longbow, quiver of arrows, and daggers hidden in his clothing for close range fighting.
History: Raised by druids in the forest, he learned Wilderness Survival at a young age. He is very intune to Nature, and able to sense the slightest smell or hint of rain, or anything new/odd that shouldnt be in the forest. Exellent Tracker. He is most proffecient in wooded areas, but hes agility and endurance can serve him everywhere. He mainly stays out of sight, doesnt associate with people, except for very close friends. He usually will sleep in the tree tops instead of an inn or house.
Quirk: Hearing. He can smell and see better than anyone known, but he cannot hear well. If you are more than 20 feet away, talking at a normal voice wont work. This is problematic, as he stays in trees sometimes, so its quite hard to get him out. His closest friends can use hand signals and actually communicate faster than using words, but its part of the reason he avoids people. Easily snuck up on, although his smell will usually prevent that from happening.

Name: Nibbler
Race: Avoral
Class: Monster
Equipment: All I have is a diamond that talks to me, and tells me what others are thinking, and advises me on the most diplomatic way of working out the current situation. I wear a small chainlink armor that covers my torso, it's a small shirt/skirt combo because anything larger would crush me, having hollow bones.
History: I grew up in a nomadic area, and kept to myself. I don't share the experiences I have been in because it's really not the busisness of those around me. I tend to be a loaner, but when I find someone that I know I can trust (my diamond will tell me) I move mountians for them. (IM me if you need more of a history for plot twists...)
Quirk: I tend to argue with this diamond.... it tells me one thing, and I pick apart it's argument to ensure that I'm sure it's giving me the best advice.

Name: C.Sparrow
Race: Human
Class: (Captain of a ship), if not Pirate, if not Swashbuckler
Equipment: Pirate clothing, dark brown leather boots, a rapier, a broken compass(which is magical gives him correct direction to anywhere he wants to go, and tends to show a invisible mini-map, only seen by his eyes, of where he is and where he could go), and a flask.
History: was abandoned as a child in front of a church and lived their for most of his years till pirates invaded his small home town. He was lucky enough and was put into slave work, at their secret island. Thats where he found the compass, eventually after many years of slavery he revolted, and went in search of a ship looking for a captain for he had no idea what to do he felt he should try something new and test his wits and become a pirate. Many years of search he came across an abandoned ship in wretch, later rebuilt and is now called April(took him about 4 years to rebuild it and many years of drinking to remember how to build it), now he's just in a search for a crew... it really is hard navigating a ship that big by yourself.
Quirk: Has no memory what so ever, will forget what he's doing and remember something he forgot to do and set off to do that, and he can't stand still due to his inner ear having an infection and has ruined his balance on land, but has perfect balance on sea.

Looks like my character will end up being the muscle of the group, and let most of you be the brains. Sorry it's been so long since I've done anything, got busy with school and kind've forgot about this. (oops!) I already know what I'm going to do for a character so that'll be quick to do. I just need to make up character type sheets for all of you so I can keep control of what's going on and simply be descriptive. Let you guys worry more about what's going on than what your stats are and such. I have finals to night so I won't do anything until at least tomorrow, but I hope to be ready to start some sort of gaming by next monday. Let me know when you can meet next week, and we'll shoot for things you can deal with.

okay, i can't wait to post on my guy.
Name: Krunk
Race: Mutated Ork
Class: Psyonic Warrior (mostly warrior, not really psyonic)
Equipment: Krunk uses no equipment that you notice. He carries a pack on his back that is mostly filled with food and other adventuring equipment. Krunk loves to cook and can cook well if he doesn't get distracted. He carries no weapons and no armor, although he is wearing a tattered looking tunic and pants, and a pair of leathery looking boots. Krunk simply smashes things in his way. He is about 6' tall and weighs about 350 lbs, and looks like he has muscles protruding from his muscles. Krunk has some psyonic powers, but doesn't use them, and doesn't really know he has them. He's been known to punch someone and the resemblence of a stab would will appear as though he used a punching dagger. Krunk can chop wood with an open palm, and if you watch carefully you can see the faint look of an axe appear as he swings through the wood. His Psyonic powers are both offensive and defensive, but most don't notice them being used as they are faint and hard to see, even when looking.
History: Krunk is the last ork from his village in the northern regions of the world. He is large and green, and nothing but muscle. Last anyone heard his village was being used as a testing ground for an insane wizard nearly 500 years ago. A group of 10 heroes went up to put a stop to the horrific experiments. Only two returned from their adventure to the north, claiming the wizard, all of the orks, and the rest of their comrades were dead. Tales have sprung forth from this event that are told as campfire tales or to scare children. It is one of the darkest chapers in known history, but most pass it off as a myth. Krunk is the only living survivor of the incident, and refueses to talk about it. Peopel have been known to be found up to 3 miles from their homes, pieces of them stretching the whole 3 miles, after refusing to drop the subject. Krunk is not the smartest person, but don't tell him that or you might wind up unconscious for a few weeks... or years depending on where he hits you. Krunk is very loyal to his friends and those that are nice to him and don't talk about him behind his back. He may be slow, but he can see and hear better than any elf he's ever run across. He is surprising light on his feet dispite his size, and can sneak around quiet enough to catch woodland creatures without them running scared.
Quirk: Krunk is slow. He doesn't think well and is easily distracted from what he is doing. If he wanders off, it's probably because he saw something he wants. Krunk has no concept for money, except that it's shiny and doesn't taste good. He is very friendly but takes offense easily if poked fun of or his friends are made a scene of. He has Psyonic powers, but doesn't know he has them. He has the potential to slice a man in half with a psyonic sword, if he only knew how to conjur it at will. Mostly his psyonic powers come out unconsciously when attacking or blocking, but has been known to 'make it happen' when trying really really hard. he has also been known to blow out the side of a building while trying.... 30 feet away. Krunk will help his friends in need, but you need to be careful by what you say or do to offend him. He has a very quick temper and will fight a friend to teach them that he's not what they say he is. in his mind, any point can be proven if the person you are arguing with is unconscious or dead. While Krunk can smash through things, he doesn't like to as they are usually pretty and he doesn't like destroying things. If Krunk feels he has done something wrong he will sulk, and refuse to fight or defend himself until he is either forgiven, or his punishment has been carried out and he won't hold a grudge for either. Krunk was wrong, he deserves what he gets. Krunk use to be VERY smart. He knows just about everything there is to know about history and places. He simply doesn't remember, although, sometimes, things will pop into his head and he has an 'inkling' of what or where he is and will either act on it, or tell others. Although, he has been known to get places confused with others if they look even a little bit similar. Krunk's sense of smell gives him the ability to remember what everyone smells like, no matter what they are wearing to mask it. Don't make him mad and run away, he will track you down, and he's damn good at it too.
