I believe this should be extended to those who have served in the military since then, and especially to those that lost their lives on 9/11/2001 and to the ones in the military.
Just please, people, don't sing the National Anthem in your own, personalized, uber-butchered way. It's fine how it is.

(You know, in case you were wondering, the person who has memorized the most digits of Pi is some Japenese guy, he memorised 10,000 digits of Pi and recited them over hours. At least, it was.. 4 years ago when I studied pi. Memorized 125 digits, Got a piece of choclate, hellz yeah!)

But seriously, we named a holiday after a person who attempted to wipe an entire idignious people away and went back to his home country in chains. He wasnt the first person, or the first European, to set foot in North America. (See Leif Ericson) We Celebrate a day in which we announced our independence, which caused a war that sent shockwaves throught the world, caused hundreds of thousands of American deaths, and eventually won us our freedom. We celebrate Armistice Day, and end to the fighting of WWI. And your saying a Terrorist attack on the United States that shaped the very world we live in today, perhaps (or certainly) changing history forever, doesnt deserve some sort of remembrance? Some sort of ceremony? but then again. An estiamted 27,000-55,000 Americans died to the release of Vioxx. Is the day it was withdrawn from the market a holiday? Why not? Shouldnt it be? Dont be so quick to say that we shouldnt remember a day that shaped us as a nation for many years to come. I understand the hesitation, due to the term Holiday infers celebration, but it can also be made a holiday, like MLK day, to remember the lives lost. Replace the word Holiday with Reflection Day, a time to sit at home with your family, talk, and enjoy life while bieng humbled at how easily it can be taken, lost, or sacraficed. |

Okay, I was joking, but way to go with it! It all depends what you define holiday as. I define holiday as a day to get together with friends and family to celebrate life. The day is also ment to reflect back on what our families have gone through in the past, and remember the great deeds that were done by average american citizens to lead our country to what it is today. If any day shows the true meaning of what it is to be an american, why not a day when our nation was put under attack and thousands rushed to the aid of anyone that needed it, willing to die to save anothers life? 9/11 isn't about terrorists attacking our country, it's a day we showed our true colors as Americans and helped eachother when it was truely needed.
