Whew I was bored so I watched it 3 times in a row, well, now I feel like I should tell everyone what the madness means! Its divided into the Plot Meaning and Symbolic Meaning

Plot Meaning: Haruko is an alien come from space to gain the power of Atomisk, but to do so she needs to draw him out threw what they call a N.O. gateway (someones head). Haruko knocks the brains out of Naota to make it a N.O. gateway and tough social situations draw things into it. So she puts him into a lot of tough situtations, but she doesnt understand what is happening. In the first episode when Canti came out she assumed that after smacking him she would get Atomisk to come out of the machine, he did, but into Naota.
Mamimi is lost and abandon. She was in love with Naota's brother, but after he left and forgot about her she lost everything, so she pretends Naoto is his older brother to keep herself sane.
Medical Mechanica is a universal group that is "blitzrieging" the universe, but they have an agreement with Earth not to whip them out, Haruka messes that up.
Medical Mechanica trapped the power of Atomisk into Canti , then Naota trapped the power within him. After they lose that power they want no one to have it, so they try to active the factory that would destroy Earth ( and Atomisk with it).
In the end, because of the HUGE stress on Naoto , running away from home, giving up everything for someone who betrays you in the end is a huge stress factor, Naoto finnally gains the full power of Atomisk. He gives it up though, and releases it, because he just wanted Haruka not power...........and Mamimi though the destruction regains her loose sanity.

Symbolic Meaning: This anime has a great meaning to it that I think fits this clan perfectly. The main symbol is the title "FLCL" (Its accually suppose to stand for Fooly Cooly, Japanese people love to throw in English for the interesting look). They say Furi Kuri all the time, its accually nonsence. Kuri Kuri sounds kinda like "fondling" in Japanese so when ever they say Furi Kuri they go spouting into nonsence (kinda like how we do for sound effects for things that dont make sounds) that relates to sexual things. But why is it suppose to mean FLCL??? Well if you notice in the first episode during the manga style (and they second time as well) they ask Naota what FLCL means but he always says "How should I know?" Well in truth he should, because its what he is doing. FLCL means Fooly Cooly OR trying to act cool. Naota is always trying to act as an adult, trying to act cool and older, but its not who he really is. Everytime he tries to act cool he just gets into a big mess. He likes sweet things (like all kids do) but doesnt take them because he is trying to act grown up (which Haruka plays off of by making him act more "adult" if he wants to be with her). Eyebrows guy used to be like Naoto......accually he still is, he wants to appear as an adult so he uses big fake eyebrows , but he is still a kid because he still wants Haruka. The point to all this? Why act grown up? Life is so wonderful. No matter if your 10 or 70, there is still more in life to gain. Acting "grown up" will only get into tough situations. Enjoy life, have fun. This is oviously the point when the last thing Haruka says to Naoto is "you know, You're still a kid". But not just kids shouldn't try to act adults, sure things need to get done, but why live life if you dont get to enjoy yourself?

It also helps to understand Japanese literary works to derive this. They like to do things oppisite of English. Where as we give the symbols and you come up with how they relate, Japanese gives how things relate and the symbols you figure out. As some famous anime maker said, English is the language of addition, Japanese is the language of subtraction. So all of their songs and anime are deep and meaningfull you just have to understand how to go about finding it.

1--brains, mmm, haruko discovers she can use taku, she doesnt eexactly just find him and use him, she searches forever till she discovered him. but ya in a way she did remove his brains, although though still occours so thats unexplained
2--u say cocial situations and i disagree kinda. at one point the mayors daughter mentions the vespa woman stings and leaves a mark if someones been thinking about somthing perverted, brough up again during dinner. and u know hes a pervert, look at mamimi. it seems this is brought up during situations when he was a perverted thought / urge many times u say its stress but i disagree. ive come to think its also intertwined with certain emotions.
3-- the big one. you say taku ( i call nauto this cause its easier to type) was imbued* with atomsk when canti lost it. i dissagree wholheartedly, if so taku woulda been red... but he isnt till the end. they mention atomsk has been imprisoned by MM, red canti was obviously imbued with atomsks power but obviously wasnt atomsk, i belive it was really just an extension of himself that we was able to control to escape MM using the portal that hauruko opened hoping he would use it. when he got his the power dissipated, if taku had gotten it he woulda been red. i belive that then gave a connection, only allowing taku to use atomsks power when he was with canti, i belive MM still had atomsk at this point or atleast some of him. at the end when atomsk comes out? he warps out through his head, so far everthing out of his head has come from very far away. this makes sense to me, taku having atomsks power all along and it not being present doesnt make sense. maybe it split up between them but where is it the whole time canti is blue and taku is normal? ill come back to this
4-- agreement not to destory earth? i dissagree, thats like saying hey we arent gonna blow u up, but we gonna set a nuke in the middle of ur city... just cause... ok? the iron was thier, they were planning on doing it period, they said they were using hte power of the pirate king! to flatten worlds, who else could have so much power?! and thus needed atomsk to do it, every time somthing came through the iron got ready destroying\, haruko just kinda expidited this by transporting shit here. they wanted to destroy canti cause it was a unit of thiers that had goten away and might aid is breakign atomsk free. the hand was sent to destroy the planet, maybe as part of destroying canti, but theirs no way in hell they would want to, nor could they destroy atomsk and they know this, hes pure freaking N.O. flattening a planet will do shit, and hes not even thier, theresjust a little robot that atomsk can use but only when connected to him, by using taku, and a link.
5--stress, u mention this and its possible but i dissagree. taku didnt gain atomsks power because he was extremely stressed, when he was up thier with hauroko he was very calm and happy to be part of her plan obviously i dont see the stress, when he was thrown in, to compelte the link and give the machine the power ( atomsks) it needed to operate he saw what what happening, he saw waht was going to happenand then instead took the power tha atomsk had and used it to stop it, it wasnt stress it was his choice to stop what was going to happen.
6--u say he releases it because he wants haruko i disagree, so far he hasnt had control of the N.O. teleportation, it is triggered by emotions / perveretedness, but in this case emotions makes alot more sense. out of any love is the greatest when he stops ( deciding not to kill her, which was the other option here) the power goes poof, he lets it go, says i love you and gives her a kiss, true emotion ( or pervertion cause he got a kiss woo!). it opens the teleportation thing in his head and its strong enough to release atomsk, BOOOOM HUGE ASS ATOMSK THE PIRATE KING!!! who then sees a large hand, knows its MM's currently doesnt like MM very much, destroys its, and is happy to be free, decides he doesnt like this planet enough to steal it and goes ZZOOOOMMM off into whoever knows where. haruko is shocked ot not have died, gotten a kiss from someone she cares for, and to see the true power of atomsk released.
7-- mamimi?! haha i love her. she is near insane, very odd person and the only thing that is her anchor for reality is takus brother until he moved away. so instead she used taku, but she wants a nice obediant little boy who will not think for himself, he changes and she doesnt like that she slips off again and starts lighting fires, mwhahaha, fires fun. in the end i dont think she magicly regains her sanity, too convenient. i think she snapped, lost it, left town, left everything behind and started new somewhere away from all the things that made her crazy to begin with. but thats a hard one to say exactly why.. this can be argued further, but it all can.
so heres a good one for u clock, why do all the galaxie space girls watching the moniters while haruko pull a guitar outa takus head get bloddy noses?

most the symbols i agree with, but i stress one thing and its the meaning of fooly cooly
fooly cooly is the original conecpt, later called furi kuri in japanese because they dont have L's and thats the way they would say fooly cooly. what is it? it means that someone is being a fool becuse they are trying to be cool.
cool as in more mature / grown up than they really are
taku is being a fool for this and as clcoky said its causeing him alot of shit
puss-n-boots episode explains pretty much exactly what FLCL is about, the whole pretending to be something he isnt, trancending the lie, becoming that person, mayors wife was attracted to this idea because its what she was doing, which is exactly what taku was doing, making them the same, she could use N.O. power as well because of this, and end the end u can tell that they are gonna hook up, dont belive me, say so and ill prove it and slap you ^_^
FLCL is my fav anime and its cause i get way too deep into shit like this, its the kind of anime u have to watch over and over to understand and to pick up on it all, but it never gets old, every time u notice somthing new because they pack so much stuff so quick you cant take it all in / comprehend it the first 2nd or 3rd time, it is truely an ingenious peace of work imo
but i do agree, the main plot was, never lose the kid in you, enjoy it, u be to serious and shit is gonna pop outa ur head and try to kill you

Taku also has the mark of Atomsk in episode 4 if u notice, mamimmi says "he connected" as in he hit the ball, but it coulda ment his first independent connection with atomsk without the help of Canti.
