This is technically not a Computer Tech Problem, however I would like an opinion of some people who actually know something about technology. So I have a video iPod that I got on Feb. 16th 2006 for my birthday. It was great, but around the summer of 2006 it stopped working. The battery icon that would normally show up is all messed up, and I cannot get away from that Icon, even after I have finished charging the iPod. I will try to post some pictures later on. I am able to get the iPod to it's normal screen if I charge it with the car charger, inside a car. Using this way, I am able to revert the iPod to factory settings which should make it work again. However, it does not, it quickly reverts to the messed up battery icon. Any suggestions? I know Auntie Jill mentioned that maybe the solution is that it simply needs a new battery. I am also going to try taking it to an Apple Store on Friday. It used to look like this. Now it is a non-animated, glitchy version of this.

go into i tunes and plug your ipod into your computer. Check the firmware of the ipod and try updating it.... if that does not work, wipe the ipod and try again. if you still have no luck, sorry....

hold "Menu" and "Select" for about 10 seconds to reset it. Also, when this happens, you can wait for the apple logo to appear and hold "forward" and "rewind" to put it into Disk Mode, should help connecting it to the computer. But try resetting it first. I tried getting it to Restart and get into Disk Mode, however it refused to get off the messed up battery icon. It would reset, and immediately go to the messed up battery icon. I cannot use my car charger to charge it up either, as that is still in Illinois with my father. So until then, I have to wait. Maybe after I use the car charger I'll be able to get the ipod to go into Disk Mode. I'm thinking I'll have to erase the whole thing, however I even have my doubts if that will work. It's pretty messed up and I don't even have a clue as to how.

Defective AC charger? Perhaps the battery is dead because you need a new charger?

I've tried using a different charger, it doesn't change anything.

I'd like to know what they say. If you ask the wrong person I'm willing to bet they will tell you to send it in. Hopefully, you get a good knowledgable person.

Disk Mode (the built in failsafe in the bootloader) isn't "Forward and Rewind". It's the center button + play (at the apple logo). It will get you to a black and white ye-olde-style screen where the sole purpose is to plug it in.
Or you could be cool like me and fork the bootloader and install a second OS >_>
