So it decides to not work only when I'd like to use it. Namely, during CS. It works outside of it beautifully. But once I get into CS, my mic goes all apeshit and decides that it cannot let anyone decipher what the hell I'm saying because it could be vital to its survival or something stupid like that.
Any ideas? This is really starting to irritate me. Especially when I'd like to shout at a teammate, "They're coming up from behind!" or something crucial like that, and they hear "warblewarblSTATICmhhommhmhmpfpfpfpfffwarble"

Padre had this EXACT same problem, to solve it he installed the audio codecs that came with his computer (home built) again, I think we tried a steam re-install but that was ineffective.

Ah Caboose... I see you finally understand why I don't use my mic in game anymore. I tried re-installing steam, I tried updating my soundcard drivers, I tried updating my audio codecs... I tried a lot of things... but alas... My mic will not work with CSS for some reason. I got tired of trying to figure it out and just revert to not using a mic in game. Try to fix it, but if it doesn't work, and you run out of idea's, join me in the 'I hate steam' group.... We have about 1,430,812.0003 members.

Did you activate you microphone in options? Check to make certain you do not have the 20 db gain option set also.

Yikes they found me, the .0003 member.
Some day I have to learn to type what I mean and not what comes out of my fingers.
