well, you can try booting into safemode. deleting every file that has chost~1.exe or chost.exe. then run msconfig and take out anything in the startup tab that has chost in it. and run lavasoft's adaware (still in safe mode). then try rebooting. that's the manual way for getting rid of some worms/viruses/adware but it's not the most affective way =/

In regards to getting rid of nasty files and processes, hijackthis is a godsend. Although you kind of have to know what you're doing. The reason its so effective is that it doesn't waste time holding your hand. Also, it's completely freeware. It basically reports all unusual behavior on a windows based computer, and lists it. But it doesn't discriminate at all, so a lot of legit stuff will show up, and you can do some damage. www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.htmlI've never seen a trogin/malware that can get past it. If you aren't sure what the output is, post a logfile and I'll walk you through it. Another tool I find immensely helpful is Sysinternals Process explorer. It won't fix anything, but it will let you see every process and corresponding thread running on your computer. www.majorgeeks.com/Process_Explorer_d4566.htmlAgain. Its compeltely freeware. All of the main processes show up in tree format in the main window. This can also be used to detect rootkits, as you can check each individual thread stemming from each process. For instance, a lot of rootkits hide in services.exe. You just right click services.exe listing in the tree, click properties, and choose the thread tab (might give you a harmless error message at this point, depending on what VB scripts you have installed), and it will show you all of the threads running from this executable. Priceless! With those two tools, and a regular spyware sweep from the usual suspects (spybotS&D and adaware), I can usually kill anything running on a computer. Kaspersky also is rated number one AV for getting rid of trogans. It has client-side detection patterns for just about everything (unlike most AV programs which depend on local heuristics for detection with server-side removal tools for less common threats). This makes it really effective for getting rid of trogans. This program, sadly, is not free, but much better than norton and mcafee, which are overrated garbage in my opinion. www.kaspersky.com/kav6Hope this helps, -Jayne

And if all that fails take a stick of electronic dynamite and blow away widows with a clean install. But first back up all of your data, find all of your install disks for every piece of software that you use, and take a deep breath. Now format your hard drive and good luck.

Wonderful advice by bait, but it wasn't me who nerfed Betsy to oblivion, it was the computer guy, and she's back with all the boot to kick with + a new graphics(Geforce 6200) card that i just bought so i can enough playing Nightfalls other than that, I shall have a new computer(more a laptop) by new years or summer for gaming, Tv, Moive's, homework, Internet, oh and DnD, so yea would be cool to have a semi-portable computer like that soon enough.
Lol and just for the fun factor I am going to have it personalize and have the laptop's front custom painted so it says *Resurged Betsy*
