Answer to the DSL issue,
DSL is a lot less functional.
I take it that you're hooking up two computers with a router,
because this sounds as though you are.
If you're behind a router, sometimes a server will reject the connection, because both of you have the same ip address.
Each computer behind the router is assigned a 192.168.*.* Or whatever the router is set up to.
Now when the information from your computer tries to leave your network, in other words, if you try aim, steam, email, anything on the internet - The information is sent through the router, and the outgoin packet tag's IP *Internet Protocol* Address is then "routed" thus the name "router".
If you have multiple computers behind one router, it could be like this.
Computer 1: 192.168.15.101 \
Computer 2: 192.168.15.102 / ROUTER - 24.224.255.68
So when both of you try to connect, you're both being shown as one unit by IP address...
You shouldn't have this issue - EXCEPT, you have DSL.
DSL is highly uncompatible and unstable with the internet as it is today. I suggest for an extra 20$ a month upgrading to Cable, I have 8MBPS cable, and I'm thankful for it. It only bungs up when the lovely little techies down at PTD decide that Grenades are fun to play with around the server machines... -.-'
But in the other case, if you have a hub, it could simply be that your ISP is denying you 2 IP address since it's DSL.
A hub simply takes information that's being transmitted to it, and reamplifies it and sends it to every port.
It cuts your Bandwidth down dependant on which port is the most active, and splits it up so instead of replacing the IP, it just detects as if there were two computers on the network.
Like..
computer 1: 24.224.156.115 \ Hub - computer 1: 24.224.156.115
computer 2: 24.224.176.123 / Hub - computer 2: 24.224.176.123
I hope that helped a bit...
If you have any more questions, I'll be glad to answer them.
I'm currently going to college for Information Technology, Networking/PC technician emphasis'.
And I already know a crap load since I'm a computer nerd...
My freshman year just started like 3 days ago, and I've tested out of at least 4 courses already, by tomorrow it'll be four. lmao.
