I can't play CS. Don't know why. The game will load, I'll get into the server, then the game will freeze. Guild Wars and FEAR work perfectly fine. I've reinstalled CS, done virus/spyware scans, reinstalled video card drivers, tried different video card drivers...it just won't work. Any suggestions? (And no it's not the hard drive)

I had this problem...
I had a bit torrent client open in the background. Steam hates those.

Ok, just realized the connection between CS:S and FFXI. They both operate off of a smaller program/hub type dealie. (PlayOnline and STEAM). Not sure how that helps, but it makes me wonder...
How does a host program affect another program?

firewall issues maybe. check that if you're running a firewall.

Do you have a personal router? I know I ran into an issue with my router, and there are settings you can put into your router that will make sure you can get to all steam things, might help, but doubtful. I would also go in and try dropping all your quality setting in CS before you try to join a server, maybe you've got an issue there. You said you re-installed, but that doesn't mean that it didn't keep an old corrupt file. Have you done any recent updates? Any Anti-Virus, or Windows, etc updates can cause settings to change and block connection types, such as FFXI and Steam. Does this happen with ANY server or just AC? might be something to check. Other than that... I'll try to think of something.... ~Chu

i hate my sound card as well. still works, but i think its been overused/outdated... many newer games i get staticy noises. i live with it because i shelled out enough cash on new vid card and ram.

O. M. G.
Turns out it wasn't the sound card, that was just a temp fix.
The REAL problem was the drivers for my motherboard's chipset. And it was the certain combination that caused this problem that I had....so now everything works fine and dandy and I can already feel my grades begin to drop....now that I can play FFXI....hehe....

If you want a good sound card, Might I suggest the Audigy 2 from SoundBlaster? It is awesome! I love it to death, AND it can do dolby 7.1... WHO HAS SPEAKERS FOR THAT?!?!?!?? lol, but anyway... it's an awesome video card, comes with some cool software, and is great esp. if you do recording or editing... Plus you can get a front side dock, it's the size of a CD rom, got volume controls, audio/mic jacks, trebble, bass, Amp plug in, for a guitar!, and it even comes with a remote! it kicks... And I think it's only like... $100... so... not bad for a sweet sound card. Oh, and BTW, you can EASILY hear where people are in CS with it... it's awesome... did I mention awesome? Cool? Bodacious? Rad? Fabulous?
