Illinois will begin using photo radar in freeway work zones in July. Second offense tickets are $1,000 with license suspension. Beginning in July the State of Illinois will use speed cameras in areas designated as "Work Zones" on major freeways. Anyone caught by these devices will be mailed a $375.00 ticket for the FIRST offense, but he SECOND offense will cost $1000.00 and comes with a 90-Day suspension.
Drivers will also receive demerit points against their license, which allows insurance companies to raise their rates. This represents the harshest penalty structure yet for a city or state using PHOTO enforcements. The State will begin with TWO camera vans issuing tickets in work zones with speed limits lowered to 45 MPH. Photographs of both the Driver's face and License plate are taken.
Pass this on to everyone you know !!!!

They've been doing this in the Phoenix Area for awhile now. I don't believe the fines were anywhere near that high though.
However, I always remember Chicago loved to collect money from fines whenever they could, and however much they could.

Ok, they're using cameras to catch people that are speeding. If you have a problem with this, then you shouldn't be driving. I have nothing else to say to that.

I love Ohio-- That camera= cop practice is illegal. They have a law on the books that says that the PERSON that tagged you speeding is the one that has to write the ticket, cameras aren't people, and can't issue tickets, nor can a cop review the camera and say hey you were speeding.... they have to be there in person.

Here's an idea - don't speed.

Here's an idea - don't speed. meh if you do, the cops like to ticket for anything 2mph over the speed limit..... they're sticklers. Not speeding would be a great idea, except in the situation where you're bound to an artificial deadline (time) and other people are driving stupidly around you-- when you've left yourself enough time to get there usually.

Caboose is absolutely correct. The second point to bear in mind is that these are WORK ZONES. Fines are already doubled there-- for a reason. It's beyond dangerous for road workers when the traffic around them is going 60mph.
