Article in todays Tribune:
A refrigerated tractor-trailer containing $50,000 in frozen broccoli was reported stolen Tuesday in Villa Park, police said.
The trailer, which was parked in the Odeum Convention Sports and Expo Center, 1033 N. Villa Ave., was last seen on Christmas Eve, said Villa Park Detective Ed Zorich.
Initially, the Bensenville trucking company that owns the trailer thought a trucker might have mistakenly taken the wrong load, Zorich said. But after checking with all their truckers, the company reported the load stolen, he said.
Police believe the refrigerated trailer itself, and not the broccoli, was the prize for the thief.
"It is a strange one though," Zorich said. "Unless the thief is a true vegetarian or something, I don't think the broccoli was the motivation."
