because it means that you were 1) thinking of them, 2) thoughtful enough to buy them something, 3) took the time to find something you thought they would like, 4) are willing to spend your hard earned money on them, 5) you're a good guy.

This is why I fail at shopping I just ask bluntly what do you want and get it, unless it's their b-day, mothers day, Xmas, and valentines days. Other than that I just say get your own money gold digger.

You dont' have to buy them anything big or expensive. Get them a cute little stuffed animal. $5. or a card, or maybe even a flower, hell, pick the flower out of your neighbours garden! Gold digging and loving thoughtful people are two different things. Dont' shower her in expensive or multitudes of gifts. just a few here and there that make her remember, that you are thinking of her, even when she's not with you.

Gifts? I think girls like them b/c then they have something to show off to their sisters and girlfriends on top of what Chu said. Have you not ever seen a girl say something to the effect of "look at what my guy gave me - *shows item to other person* - isn't he so sweet?" If you're lucky, you won't be around when she does it b/c then you'll get the "awe" and maybe a pinched cheek or puppy dog eyes that make you want to puke, run, and grin at the same time. Yeah... it's that weird.. What was my point again?

I like giving my g/f things, but not everything I give her is store bought.
Ok wow, to clarify that statement!
I enjoy makin her cards or things in photoshop. I also arrange flowers....yeah I have no clue how I learned to do that.

anyways, i think girls like gifts because they get to show them off to their friends. Wait, no, scratch that, They want you to spend money on them. And if you complain that your girlfriend makes you spend too much, then dump her
