Long ago AT&T told me they would be putting in a remote
DSL terminal in my area. Sweet right? This was so long ago that they were called SBC.
They spent months digging up the street and working in manholes. Then one day a portion of a front yard gets turned into a concrete slab. IN the next week a small box grows like a mushroon in the slab. This box sprouts a power meter. Then a huge refrigerator sized box grows on the slab. More digging and more manhole work follows.
The work crews vanish and I call AT&T and ask to be put on the RT (remote terminal). The reply is "There is no remote terminal in your area sir." But I can see it! "Sorry but there is no remote terminal available to you sir." Hang up time. Call again to get a new voice at the other end figuring I was working with an idiot. No joy, "No sir there is no remote terminal in your area."
Frustration, I can see the damned thing right there in front of a house not a half mile away.
So when I was out driving I stopped and talked to a lineman, much nicer than the tech service people as they will explain things to you. It turns out that I am a half a block out of the service area of the new RT. They put it in to cover the area further away from the central office. Screwed again.
