Case History: Got an Antec Phantom 500W power supply for my birthday. Installed it Jan 14th. Tuesday night, the first night I'm not wearing my noise cancelling headphones... I notice the thing sounds like shit! so I call. Talked to JOHN. He tells me to disconnect the cable on the power supply- the one thats black and blue. So I open my case. no way in hell am I voiding a warnatee on this by doing what he suggested. I ask him if its a known problem, he tells me yes. So I call back this morning, talk to ROSCOE. He gives me shit. He won't do a damn thing without a reciept. (Its a f'n b-day gift JERK!) Fine, give me your supervisor. Supervisor is WALT. He too won't do a damn thing about thing about. Moral of the story: Defective straight from the get go, and the original company won't do shit about it. Antec is worthy of hate mail.

All school districts get paid to be bastards. And Antec can now stuff this supply as we have a reciept for the replacement. Kudos to Fry Electronics.

i have to say... that's a fluke. antec makes some of the best power supplies on the market. they also normally have very good customer service. i worked at a computer store for a while, so i know all this first hand.
as for the reciept thing... yeah... you should be able to RMA the thing somehow, but yeah, you'll probably need to find out where it was bought from.
for future reference, i'd say shop at newegg.com not only do you get some of the best prices available, they have very fast shipping, and will RMA pretty much anything if it doesn't work like it should. great company.

i'd have to agree with schweppes. no offense to anyone, but almost no companies will do anything for you unless you have the original receipt, whether it's under warranty or not. Antec makes some of the best power supplies and cases known to man. i have bought cases and ps's from them since i can remember and i've never had a single problem. i think you just may have been unlucky =/. i've heard of Fry Electronics, but i don't know much about them. my suggestion would be to buy products from places that keep your purchases on file so you can go get your receipt whenever you need it.
-- on a side note, i'll never buy from Tiger Direct ever again. their customer service reps will lie to you week after week. they finally did send me my lost product, but yeah.... they aren't the most reliable.

Fry gave us the copy so we are now in the clear.
Again - kudos to Fry's.

Tiger Direct.... I bought a modem from them about two years ago and nothing since because of the trouble I had returning a DOA part. They made me go through the whole hour and a half tech support BS on the phone and then took 2 weeks sending a new card, which they billed me for until the old one was in thier hands... I was very tempted to drive over to thier office in Pitrsburgh and hand deliver the DOA part so i could give the tech support guy my mind.

tigerdirect is pretty much the only place cheaper than newegg, but like you guys said, the reliabilty just... isn't there.
