Steam is updating again. I hope that it does not randomly change my video settings again as it has done in the past.

STEAM IS DOWN!!!! MEDIC!!!
Apparantly there was a power outtage in Seattle that took out their servers, so... nobody can authenticate their account, therefore, nobody can play. They say it may last until as late as Tuesday.... *sigh*
NOW WE HAVE BEEN STEAMED!!!

I went nuts tearing things apart and looking for viruses and Spyware. Disconnected my backup drive and dumped a lot of files to cd for backups. All because of Steam being down made me...
Insert ten to the tenth cuss words here, yes every word imaginabel and then start my own dictionary of cusses.

I just got done reading an article about how all these people were getting their accounts erroneously shut down because valve thought they were cheating. They swear up and down that they never installed a cheat.
Then I go on and try to log in and it won't authenticate. LOL
I checked the forums right after though, and found out about the power outage. It's apparently out all along the northwest seaboard, right up to Vancouver. Pretty nasty stuff. Once I found out that 4 people died, I wasn't so frustrated anymore.
Cheers, -Jayne

Steam is down, it is not steams fault. Check out videos about the MASSIVE storm that happened in Seattle area. Over a million people have no power, and it could be 5-7 days before they do get power. Seven counties are in a state of emergency!

The reason nobody can play CSS is because since Steam has no power NOBODY can AUTHENTICATE to their ACCOUNT. People have no power, people are working 24 hours a day to fix it, and PEOPLE ARE DIEING. Grow up and quit worring about your damn game and think about the people in trouble.

i hate to argue, but what fun would it be if we didn't argue =P
first of all, the death toll in the windstorm is up to 6 (that was an update, not an argument). and had the fastest winds recorded in the seattle area. it is a horrible tragedy, no doubt. however, there are people suffering every day in this world. if we tried to dwell on all the horror in the world, we would do nothing but worry about people we don't know, putting stress on ourselves etc. i'm not saying it's bad to think about others who are in trouble now and again, but if you don't do anything about it, it's not like it made any difference anyway...
secondly, it IS steam's fault. talk about putting all their eggs in one basket. redundancy would be nice. maybe multiple authentication servers around the us... one in every region and then a nice little redirect program when it can't reach one? wow how hard is that, oh wait, most mmo's do that.
some people might take offense to "Grow up and quit worrying about your damn game and think about the people in trouble." but this is an online forum. let people vent their issues out here. better here than yelling at someone and hurting their feelings.
i however, exalt the chu for trying to keep the peace =)

IT IS STEAMS FAULT FOR HAVING TO HAVE US VERIFY EVERY TIME WE TURN ON OUR COMPUTERS!
That is an onerous thing, big brother has nothing on Steam. We have to have a CD key to play and that shold be enough. Bah, they should have a disaster plan for such contingencies.
Poeple die every day of natural disasters, here in the Untied States we take it for granted that happens. Get out of your little hole and get used to it. If you try to violate natural laws you get hurt. If you push the evelope hard enough you die.
Prepare to take care of yourself in all situations and always be ready to run or fight as necessary.
Bait the other fellow into your own trap and live.
